SACROPHOBIA
SACROPHOBIA
Biography:
Around the summer of 1990 Sacrophobia was formed by Juancar (guitar), Miguel (bass) y Juan (guitar). We were thinking about starting a Thrash Metal band 4 years ago but the first Death Metal bands coming out these days convinced us to change the style, such bands as Death, Autopsy, Obituary, Morbid Angel, Napalm Death y Sepultura, they truly influenced us very hard from the very first minute and they made that our style was leaning to our beloved Death Metal in the end. Featuring Raúl (vocals) and Lázaro (drums) we began to rehearse in January 199, but soon after we found a new drummer in Javi, he was the man we needed to improve our songs. With this line-up, in the summer of 1991, we recorded our first demo called “Only Death is Irreversible” released by Drowned Productions (the first label owned by Dave Rotten), featuring 4 tracks, being well received in despite of the overall sound because of the last hour mixes that ruined a bit the final result. The first gigs around Madrid were shared with all kind of bands, Hardcore, Grindcore, Heavy, Thrash, since no Death Metal bands existed here at that point.

When Raúl left the band in the beginning of 1992 it was a hard task to find a replacement on vocals; the Death Metal genre was still developing and very few people could come up and shout and growl, but out of the blue an old friend called Jesús showed up and took on the place surpassing all expectations. In summer again, but of 1992, we recorded our 2nd demo. This time Sacrophobia suffered a technical evolution and their brand of Death Metal was more powerful, relying specially in Swedish bands (Entombed, Carnage, Dismember), and their 4-track demo proved it all. Still without a title, this demo was made only for promotion purposes, we contacted some labels but we were out of luck. Only Seraphic Decay Records (USA) were interested and offered a deal to release a 7”EP, but this label was about to collapse and disappeared at all. Our deception was huge but we carried on fighting. About concerts, we played in a big Death Metal Festival in Ourense, in a small arena full of people sharing stage with Elbereth and Sepulcro (later Unnatural), it was nuts!

1993 was an important year for the band. In May 1993, our friend Dani of Revenge Productions brought us to his hometown in Germany to play 2 gigs over there, the 2nd was a contest featuring 15 bands from most countries in Europe (Eurovision in Metal) and we qualified in 2nd place earning a good sum, around 600 euro, so we could get some money back from the expensive flight passages (back then, RyanAir didn’t exist, haha!). It was amazing! Soon after, the Spanish label Fonomusic, (by the way they were specialized in pop albums!!), decided to release a compilation album on CD/LP/MC formats featuring some Death Metal bands from Madrid and one more from Sevilla and there we went! Entitled “Dead Flesh”, we recorded 2 tracks becoming our only official release until now.

But our main goal was to release our first album, somehow, someday… In spite of our efforts and the good reviews and critics about the band, we couldn’t find a real deal to record it properly and the chances of auto-financing our album and get a good distribution were minimal due to high costs by then. The expectations were suddenly diminished and the band split-up in December 1993, after Javi’s departure. Nevertheless Sacrophobia played a farewell and intrincated gig in January 1994.

But years went by and in 2006 all members of the band got together again after many years. The remembrance of every moment lived within the band was there and the chemistry was intact. We agreed to release all the stuff available from us, we wanted to make justice to Sacrophobia and to come back properly at last, showing all the people who surprisingly still remembered about us after all those 25 years. We only want to say that although all members in the band took in separated ways musically speaking, Sacrophobia is our icon and primary band, just a kids group that felt we were one of the best Death Metal bands in the world, even though we knew we weren’t. Now thanks to Xtreem Music, you’ve got it in your hands. Thank you all for keep it alive after so many years!

On this CD you can find all songs we ever recorded in studio along with some unreleased ones only recorded live in Santa María del Páramo (León/Spain) at one of our latest shows. The sound quality may not be the best, we know it, but they’re taken from a quite old VHS video tape and what the hell, it’s the only recording of these songs and we couldn’t leave them out.
