BREATHLESS’ history started back in June 1999, when two friends, Eduardo Moreno (guitar) and Joan Font (drums), began composing with the idea of fusing classic Heavy Metal and 80’s Thrash Metal. Eddy, bass player for a while, completes the first line-up.
When Eddy left, they remained as a duo, performing some shows strictly instrumental. In 2001, after testing many people, a second guitar player came in, Paco "Max", and Javier Martí joined on bass. Shortly Max left and Javier, as well, departs in 2003 when he decides to focus playing just with REDRUM IN BLOOD, side Death Metal band in which Edu was playing in too.
Then Eduardo and Joan, tested two SURGEON members, Victor Arco as soloist, and Alex on bass. A long path lies ahead, 4 years revisiting the old songs, counting 11, adding vocal parts (Eduardo), and solos (Victor), thrashing as well the whole island and gaining recognition on the Mallorca Metal scene.
After taking a break for a year, they record their first EP in 2007, self-titled "Breathless", containing cuts as "Breathless", "Sudden Death", "Slaughtered Limbs Day", "Feeding Depression", long progressively structured, varied and intense songs and "Veneno Consumidor", their first song from the beginnings and the only one sung in Spanish and Heavy Metal oriented, the most popular among metalheads in Mallorca. 200 copies were distributed around and supported with massive live performance.
Beginning 2008, Victor leaves and BREATHLESS starts working on new stuff. Shortly after that, Alex was replaced by Javier Martí, rejoining the band. Oscar Maestre joins on rhythm guitar, (from REDRUM IN BLOOD), to complete the line-up. After a hard year and a half at their rehearsal-room, playing shows around the island; BREATHLESS entered Urban Studio in Palma de Mallorca in December 2009 with Rafa Rigo as headmaster sound technician and Toni Toledo. It took over a month to record, edit and master their debut album entitled "Thrashumancy", with 13 conceptual cuts about our apocalyptic imminent future, melting the BREATHLESS’ scent with a much more 80’s Thrash approach.
It was in early 2010 when Javier Martí contacts Dave Rotten (AVULSED), from XTREEM MUSIC record label to seal a deal for edition, promotion and distribution of their album. But who said that things were easy? After 8 months of wait, the cover artwork was still in a doubt, and BREATHLESS decides to make some changes, well known Juanjo Castellano was then in charge of the cover artwork, using an original idea from BREATHLESS, and gave birth to the long awaited cover art, with an spectacular work of the artist.
After a long worth wait, "Thrashumancy" was set for release in mid January 2011. Despite the years and the location of the band, the essence of BREATHLESS has always been the same and have never lost hope of getting off the island and receive fair recognition, bringing life to this style of music.
