Astonishing debut by this spanish band of pure Thrash Metal the classic way with influences in the vein of METALLICA, SLAYER, MEGADETH, TESTAMENT... executed in a masterly way with a great vocalist. Memorable songs full of dynamics where they blend melody and aggression on equal parts getting a great result. All this accompanied by a great production and excellent cover art by Andrei Bouzikov... we're in front of the great revelation of spanish Thrash in 2013!!
Its time for another treat from the vastly impressive roster of Spanish record label Xtreem Music!
Based on the Mediterranean island of Majorca comes Trallery, a thrash metal band heavily inspired by US giants Metallica. So much so in fact that they started out life as a Metallica covers band under the name of White Shadow. Now though the band have put out their first release of original music, a debut full length album going by the name of Catalepsy!
Whilst I’d never claim that Trallery are a clone of Metallica, their heavy influence does cast a shadow over all that the band creates. That said what Trallery creates is of such a high quality the US titans themselves might be proud of some of these tracks. Dissipated by Oblivion in particular has the suspense laden intro of Enter Sandman and is played in a similar flowing and catchy manner. Other tracks such as In the Wings of the Night hint in parts at Nothing Else Matters and Fade to Black, or even The Unforgiven with their acoustic subtle graces mixed with more telling riff-age!
Above all else Trallery create melodies, tunes and harmonies. They create stories and songs you’d want to sing along with or groove too. They have rougher edges that later Metallica work but in all fairness Catalepsy out shines anything the US band they hold dear have created in the last decade. Not only that but Trallery are a heavier proposition too by far! Sporting some devious chugging riffs (See The Secret Trial) and some fast thrashing action throughout, Catalepsy is the perfect mix of superb song craft, wonderful melodies and swift, direct thrash aggression! It wears its influences on its sleeve but Catalepsy is one of the best thrash albums I’ve heard, period!
