Comentario:

u have to give some credit to Rogga Johansson. I mean the man is a riff-machine that can write albums non-stop every month for 20 years in a row and all of them will have something memorable in all of them. And while Rogga has 15+ active projects (and even has time to participate as guest in albums) he still pays attention to RIBSPREADER, maybe a bit more than to some other projects. With “Suicide Gate - A Bridge To Death” RIBSPREADER has come to album # 6 and as you can expect it is full of old school Death Metal riffs everywhere. But this time around I sense some Florida Death Metal a bit more than Swedish Death Metal in the way of approaching riffs, songwriting and structure. As usual with RIBSPREADER this album is executed as a 3-piece band including Taylor and Jeramie of THE ABSENCE and SCAB. These 2 gentlemen are actually from Florida, USA and they bring a fresher sound in the sense of open sounding, melodic playing. After more than 100+ albums recorded and released by Rogga Johansson you all might think, what can be different this time around? The first thing that came to my mind apart from the US / Florida approach is also the fact that this album has more in common with DEMIURG than with REVOLTING for example, so you have catchier stuff (even some acoustic guitars here and there). If you feel like you need more Rogga Johansson albums in your collection, you worship him or you want to listen to a nice Death Metal release that mixes raw and straight forward Death Metal with melodic Death Metal check this album out, it might give you a surprise.

One of his never-ending projects, Swedish death metallers Ribspreader are another in the large crop of bands from Rogga Johansson which he uses to spread his passion of old-school death metal as this one is one of the longest lasting efforts. With drummer Brynjar Helgetun and guitarist Andreas Carlsson being replaced by Jeramie Kling and Taylor Nordberg respectively, the groups’ sixth full-length is released June 15, 2016 on new-label Xtreem Music.

Whereas the majority of the bands are more of a straightforward old-school act, this particular entity of Rogga’s centers around a stylish worship of the Swedish scene in general. Efforts like “Descent of the Morbid,” “Centuries of Filth” and “Suffering the Grave” manage to take on that typically grinding buzzsaw riffing style, complete with the swirling thrash melodies to offer up the kind of speed-drenched efforts that reek of that atmosphere and power that come from the album’s near-continuous onslaught of ravenous riff-work in this dynamic style. Working in that presence of dread and doom here with “Elegi,” “World Dismemberment” and “In Mankind’s Rotting Grip” in which they add in a slightly more pronounced galloping pace that acts as a melodic sprawl against the ravenous actions elsewhere, while bringing about plenty of tight rhythms and atmosphere here to counteract the driving intensity displayed here. This attack is quite impressive and enjoyable for the most part with the album going between the ravenous and the more reserved sections in a rather fine variety, even if the album isn’t really all that original or creative for the most part. It steals from the playbook of so many other acts from this time-period and style that there’s not much about it that really stands out beyond the energy and enthusiasm from the tracks, and for the most part is what really holds this one back.

Generating plenty of ravenous Swedish-styled influences together for one rather fine project that doesn’t really do much interesting or original work here which harms this one somewhat enough in order to really leave this for the most devout followers of Swedish death metal, Rogga aficionados or old-school death fans in general while others should heed caution here due to its issues.

Why Rogga Johansson has so many groups? For example, a Swedish musician in the framework of some projects is collaborating with artists famous enough to form an additional musical unit. For example, DOWN AMONG THE DEAD MEN where singing Dave Ingram (ex BENEDICTION, ex BOLT THROWER) or JOHANSSON / SPECKMANN involving Paul Speckmann (MASTER). But there are also several groups where the same people play the same music, but under different names. The main projects are PAGANIZER (apparently the first child of Rogga) and RIBSPREADER. Every year a few albums on different labels, and, most importantly, I think everyone is happy.

The fans and the labels, got to yourself descent group, and Rogga Johansson, who plays Swedish death metal even when he sleeps, otherwise it is impossible to understand how to compose, play and record so much material. New RIBSPREADER album “Suicide Gate – A Bridge To Death” with a fresh piece of Swedish meat available to everyone from June 15 of this year through label Xtreem. This time a famous musician has recorded an album not by hisself, CD was the debut for new drummer Jeramie Kling and lead guitarist Taylor Nordberg. Of course, this added diversity to sound, but not for a millimeter moved RIBSPREADER from the once chosen path. Hard, rhythmic death metal with the Swedish orthodox sound for all fans of the genre. Rare melodic solos, terrifying vocals, bulldozer rhythm.

We have all heard it many times, but it does not hurt to hear it again, and again, and again... RIBSPREADER did not invent the wheel and do not open America, but listen to "Suicide Gate" is nice and fun. I was just thinking, what if Rogga would leave one group, then he may focusing all the creative efforts in one place, will finally produce a masterpiece? I think that's unlikely. Dense, Swedish death metal – this is the height of his skill. It is monotonous, you can get bored if you listen to him often, but it is always in abundance, and it high-calorie. Want Swedish death metal? Go to Rogga Johansson.
