Xtreem Music (spa) 08.05.2015 Hoy por hoy al hablar de Brutal Death Metal es prácticamente inevitable que lo primero que nos venga a la mente sean producciones modernas de hipergorrinismo con baterías a velocidades inhumanas normalmente echando cierto tufillo a sobreproducción tecnológica, véase triggers (o directamente programaciones a la velocidad del rayo) para la batería, y voces procesadas con efectos de pitch y distorsión vocal a cascoporro. Tal vez así sea en gran parte de los casos; pero no lo era cuando, a principios de los 90, bandas neoyorkinas como SUFFOCATION, INTERNAL BLEEDING o PYREXIA sentaron las bases del género, con producciones orgánicas y sencillas, pero que destilaban una pesadez y brutalidad que trascendían los límites hasta entonces conocidos dentro del Death Metal para llevarlos a un nuevo nivel de bestialidad sonora, tanto en lo instrumental como en lo vocal. De su larga sombra, rápidamente surgieron réplicas a nivel mundial, entre ellas los almerienses REINCARNATION; combo formado en 1993, año de la publicación de burradas tan emblemáticas como el “Breeding the Spawnâ€� de SUFFOCATION o el “Sermon of Mockeryâ€� de PYREXIA. Este último disco es sin duda el primero que viene a la cabeza (junto con algunas producciones menores, como las demos de IMMORTAL SUFFERING) al escuchar a los andaluces REINCARNATION, que a su vez fueron pioneros del Brutal Death en nuestro país. La edición que nos ocupa es una recopilación de los dos primeros trabajos de REINCARNATION, que fueron lanzados originalmente por Repulse Records: el LP “Voidâ€� de 1997 y el precedente EP “Seed of Hate“ de 1995. Ahora, 20 años después, es Xtreem Music quien recupera este material, que edita con varios extras, como 4 temas en directo grabados en el Repulsive Fest del 98, y un tema inédito del mismo año. Con lo ya indicado, cualquier conocedor del género sabrá lo que va a encontrarse en este CD: temas burros a la par que elaborados, con mogollón de partes diferentes que se mueven entre los tiempos lentos y pesados y los blasts más demoledores. Mucho guitarreo con riffs machacones y técnicos y una base rítmica que no da tregua, con un bajo que tiene un papel tan solista como las guitarras, y una batería variada y trepidante, con ese sonido añejo de bombo y cajas huecas que deja escuchar cada uno de los blastbeats. Pese a que suelo ser de los que inciden en la instrumentación, y la REINCARNATION es para nota, el aspecto vocal es de lo que más me mola de la banda; principalmente por la versatilidad de Javi, que varía sustancialmente de una grabación a otra, yendo de los guturales cavernosos a lo Frank Mullen en “Seed of Hateâ€�, a un registro podrido, gutural e ininteligible, pero que no llega a caer en el gorrineo en “Voidâ€�, y haciendo mención especial al tema inédito “Hell Over Hellâ€�, donde la técnica vocal vuelve a ser diferente y no difiere mucho de lo que es habitualmente encontrable en bandas actuales más dadas al gorrineo (hago un pequeño inciso para referirme a este tema, que tiene unos riffs melódicos al estilo de ANASARCA, ADRAMELECH e INTESTINE BAALISM que son la hostia en verso, jajaja). Al margen del indicado, los temas son bastante parejos en cuanto a calidad, quizá los de “Voidâ€� vayan un pasito más allá en cuanto a complejidad técnica y definición (especialmente en el tratamiento del bajo) e, indudablemente, suenan mucho mejor que los del primer EP porque están grabados con más medios. Si tuviera que destacar alguno, y a efectos meramente ilustrativos, en la inicial “Fucking Raceâ€� ya podemos hacernos una idea del repertorio de recursos de estos tíos, y temas como la homónima “Voidâ€� o “The Horror Withinâ€� son un puto cañonazo en la cara. La verdad es que, volviendo a la comparación con el “Sermon of Mockeryâ€� de PYREXIA, creo que “Void“ habría sido la continuación perfecta del disco, en lugar de mutar hacia los terrenos Groove / Core de “System of the Animalâ€�. No sé, igual son ralladas mías, al igual que pienso lo mismo del “Stabwound Orgasmâ€� de AVULSED respecto del “Slumber of Sullen Eyesâ€� de DEMIGOD. En fin, que muchas veces sigue más fielmente el legado un grupo ajeno que el artista original. Bueno, que no me lío más, solo una última apunte sobre una edición que merece realmente la pena y es que espero que sirva como pistoletazo de salida para lo que pueda venir con la reunión de REINCARNATION y su nuevo trabajo “The Beginnning“, que según parece ya va enfilando su recta final. Besonders die eingängigen Riffgewitter, wie in “Drowned In Bloodâ€�, fräsen sich schnell zum Konsumenten durch, wobei es allerdings leider in dieser Beziehung für meinen Geschmack etwas wenig ist. Dennoch knallt “Voidâ€� ziemlich ordentlich und ist speziell der Anhängerschaft des amerikanisch geprägten Death Metal ans Herz gelegt. “Seed Of Hateâ€� ist noch einen Schritt mehr dem Untergrund verfallen und offenbart eine merkliche Portion an Charme, weshalb wohl selbst Nostalgiker hier ein Ohr riskieren werden. Die Zugabe von einer Live Performance aus dem Jahre 1998 ist zwar gut gemeint, inwieweit man diese unbedingt braucht, sei jetzt mal dahingestellt. Ob Reincarnation heute noch existent sind, entzieht sich jedoch meiner Kenntnis, da das hier gebotene Material den Jahren 1995-1998 entnommen ist. This reissue of their 1997 album “Voidâ€� shows just how freaking this Spanish death metal legion was. This album had all of the makings from Suffocation’s “Human Wasteâ€� ep and “Effigy Of The Forgottenâ€� LP with hints from Cannibal Corpse and Gorguts. Xtreem Music out of Madrid, Spain issued “Void + Seed Of Hateâ€�, which features four of their MCD tracks from 1995, a promo cut as well as four live songs from 1998. Now having experienced this band via a live recording, I can only imagine Reincarnation brought the clubs crashing down with their ultra brutal death. With 18 songs on here, just with a little of an hours worth of grueling and abysmal torture, you are in for the physical as well as emotional torture of your life. Their playing on “Voidâ€� is tight, technical to a certain degree, and outright in your face, as you’re not even given a breather. The guitar rhythms along with the blast beat drumming assaults feel like bombs going off within your ear canals. The vocals are semi-deep and guttural to the point of smashing your cranium to millions of pieces. This is not your ordinary type of death metal, as it is pulsing and full of enough loathing to unleash your inner demons. Don’t pass this one up, as it is sure to kick your ass hard!
