Jako kulisa nám bude hrát kapela z nejpovolanějších, Å¡védská smrtící maÅ¡ina MOONDARK. Legendární skupina, která datuje svůj vznik až někam do roku 1993. Tehdy také, po pouhém jednom létě činnosti, na dlouhých 22 let uložili své nástroje k ledu a teprve až letos znovu obnovili svoji činnost. Nalezneme u nich mocné melodie, které se kroutí jako hlavy neposluÅ¡ných háďat, houpavý rytmus a zahnívající vokál. Obliba a základy muziky jsou podobné jako třeba u takových CRYPT OF KERBEROS, CREMATORY, BOLT THROWER, ETERNAL DARKNESS. Originál old school death metal z devadesátých let, znovu nahraný (s mírně čitelnějším zvukem) má pořád tu neskutečnou sílu a atmosféru, tolik známou z pohřebních ústavů. Tady si nikdo na nic nehraje, vÅ¡echno je ohlodané až na kost, syrové a oÅ¡klivé, jako smrt sama. Pro poslech doporučuji vychlazenou místnost, případně nějaké hodně temné sklepení. Zlo se vznáší vÅ¡ude kolem, zákeřné, plazící se a kousající. Není úniku, připadám si jako zasažený slzným plynem. Křeče do mě pronikají pomalu, s nasládlým nádechem rozkládajících se mrtvol. Tančíme na hrobech naÅ¡ich death metalových předků, přemýšlíme o nesmrtelnosti a řinčíme kostmi do rytmu jediného pravého death metalu. Å védský kult ožil opět s neskutečnou silou a energií. Jestli jste si mysleli, že téhle hydře uniknete, tak jste se pekelně mýlili. Chytne vás, omámí a pokouÅ¡e zuby ostrými jako hroty nožů. Při poslechu mám občas strach vylézt na světlo boží. Tisíckrát prokletý, obětovaný, zavržený. Takový se cítím při "The Shadowpath". Doomová nálada otevřených hrobů na mě dýchá ze vÅ¡ech stran. Tohle album je povinností pro vÅ¡echny old school death metalové maniaky. Vítejte v pekle! Å védské smrtící album, které vám zatluče hřeby do rakve! Vynikající chorobná deska! Jakub Asphyx Nos Gusta La Música Webzine (spa) 01.07.2015 En el marco de las “Cult Seriesâ€� del sello Xtreem se recupera esta auténtica joyita del underground sueco. Y aunque todos los medios coiciden en llamar Death Metal a esta música, yo no lo tengo tan claro, creo que, por lo menos, debe mencionarse que una parte muy importante del impresionante sonido de esta banda proviene del Doom más podrido y corruptor que imaginarse pueda. Pero esta maravillosa demo de 1993 recuperada y dotada de un espectacular trabajo gráfico no suena a Asphyx ni a ninguna de las bandas que desarrollaron el Death lento: lo que hay aquí es mucho más cavernoso, radical, oscuro y putrefacto, y aun así se trata de un producto perfectamente audible, sin excesivas cerdadas, y con aquel aroma de cloaca o de ciénaga de la época. La vocación de arrastrarse queda clara desde el primer acorde. Yo creo que estos siete largos y sinuosos temas tienen tanto que ver con los primeros Bolt Thrower (“In battle there is no lawâ€�, o sus fantásticas Peel Sessions) como con bandas manifiestamente consideradas pioneras del Doom más sludgero y pesado: Winter o Thergoton. Moondark desaparecieron legando únicamente este álbum magistral, y sus componentes fueron a parar a magníficas bandas que sí lograron un desarrollo pleno: hay gente de Moondark en Interment, Entrails, Uncanny y Centinex. Gozarán de esta maravilla los amantes del death antiguo, así como también los amantes del sludge más lento y radical. Si me hicieran buscar una banda parecida, elegiría Desecresy, aunque para definirles se aluda a Funebre, Funebrarum, Demilich o los inevitables Bolt Thrower, con quienes compartirían esos orígenes primigenios en los que las fronteras entre los géneros no estaban tan definidas como en la actualidad. A principios de los noventa, uno podía ver a Winter en el mismo concierto que a una banda de hardcore … ¿dónde encasillar,por ejemplo, a unos Deviated Instinct? De repente, un sello dedicado al punk, como era Peaceville, se pone a editar a My Dying Bride. Pues eso, yo no me contentaría con clasificar a Moondark como una banda de puro Death Metal. Hay algo más aquí, algo más básico en estos riffs de pesadilla, más monstruoso y subhumano. De esa masa amorfa y extrema surgió esta pastosidad malévola. Música primaria y nocturna para disfrutar. Un acierto recuperar este tipo de discos que cayeron increíblemente en saco roto y en el olvido. Directamente a mi lista de lo mejor del año. Uretra Necroweb.de (GER) 15.06.2015 Mit einem überaus geilen Klang warten Moondark auf, der sich als schön morbide und knarzig umschreiben lässt. Kein Wunder eigentlich, denn das vorliegende Tondokument beinhaltet das einzige Demo der Band, welches klangtechnisch absolut überzeugen kann. Moondark’s “The Shadowpathâ€� stammt von 1993 und klingt entsprechend authentisch, wobei es anderseits schade und irgendwie auch völlig unverständlich ist, warum der Truppe bislang keine große Aufmerksamkeit bescheinigt wurde. Nach besagtem Demo war nämlich leider irgendwie Ruhe im Schacht, wobei das bislang vorhandene Material nun dank Xtreem Music der Metal Gemeinde zugänglich gemacht wird. Dabei lohnt es sich durchaus, etwas tiefer in die Materie einzutauchen, denn allein die Zusammensetzung basiert auf Namen wie Interment, Entrails oder auch Uncanny, und entsprechend darf man von der zu erwartenden Kost ausgehen – schwedischer Todesblei, dessen Ausrichtung unter anderem ebenfalls in Richtung (alte) Disgrace und Funebre geht. “The Shadowpathâ€� steht also für richtig starken Death Metal, der zudem mit dem Killertrack “The Dawn For Our Raceâ€� ein verdammt markantes Tondokument beinhaltet, welches sich sofort und ohne jegliche Vorwarnung in die Hirndecke schraubt – sauber! Dabei ist das Teil wohlgemerkt nicht so modern, wie heutzutage jede Band von da oben klingt, sondern wartet mit einem gewissen Charme auf, dessen Originalität Moondark zugutekommt und allen Freunden von Desecrecy die Sabber im Schlund anreichert. Neben genannten Vorzeigetiteln, so sind noch weitere Perlen auf dem Silberling zu finden, welche sich qualitativ nur wenig unterscheiden, was am Ende nichts anderes verlauten soll, als dass “The Shadowpathâ€� nicht nur optisch ein absoluter Leckerbissen geworden ist, sondern auch in Sachen stilistischer Umsetzung ein fast schon zeitloser Klassiker geworden ist. The band was formed in 1993 by members of Fulmination, Entrails, Interment, Uncanny and Centinex. They started out playing covers of bands like Eternal Darkness, Bolt Thrower and Crypt Of Kerberos, but soon they started to write original material. Material that ended up on the 1993 demo. Musically you can describe this as super-heavy death/doom influenced by the aforementioned bands, but you can also hear the sound of American acts like Rottrevore or Incantation. After the demo the band called it quits and the guys continued in other bands. To this day these guys are still active in numerous bands but Moondark has been resurrected as well. In 2007 the demo was released by a few labels on both CD and LP. The recordings then got the title 'The Shadowpath'. Apparently there's still a market for these recordings as Xtreem Music once again re-issued this killer recordings. Don't expect any high-tech songs but crude, simple and heavy death/doom. It seems the band is working on new material and based and what I heard on these 1993 recordings I am very curious about. Pim B. La banda como tal se fundó en 1993 y tan solo grabaron estos 7 temas dando forma y cuerpo a lo que hoy conocemos como “The Shadowpathâ€�, no han vuelto a grabar nada más para MOONDARK desde entonces. Sus miembros a día de hoy han formado parte de bandas tales como KATATONIA, INTERMENT, CENTINEX, DELLAMORTE, UNCANNY, FULMINATION, ENTRAILS, y alguna más que me dejo en el tintero, creo que es suficiente currículo como para seguir leyendo con atención ¿No? Xtreem Music se hace cargo esta vez de la re-edición de “The Shadowpathâ€� a través de las “Xtreem Cult Seriesâ€� marca que garantiza siempre (o casi siempre) una edición cuidada y que guarda unos estándares mínimos de calidad, en este nuevo envase encontraremos información sobre la banda, letras de las canciones, fotos, una portada en condiciones para una Demo de tal magnitud, etc. Todo eso y más se puede encontrar en esta nueva re-edición que ve la luz el 1 de mayo del presente año. Aun así creo que es poco, se hecha en falta algún bonus track con algún tema en vivo o algún ensayo o grabación anterior o posterior, cualquier archivo audible seria valido, es lo único que penaliza y se hecha en falta en esta re-edición. De momento solo está disponible la edición en CD, los que deseen el vinilo aún tendrán que esperar unos meses para ver su deseo realizado (las ganas me devoran las entrañas poco a poco cada día ¡Uffffff!). Esta re-edición cuenta con un nuevo arte de portada que a sido realizado por Juanjo Castellano, portada que me recuerda en cierto modo al sendero mortuorio más famoso de la historia del Death Metal sueco, por supuesto me refiero al “Lefh Hand Pathâ€� de ENTOMBED, seguramente este arte esté inspirado en esa emblemática portada, no tengo ninguna duda, dándole y añadiendo si cabe al dibujo original una sensación de oscuridad y espesura total, que casi se puede cortar, imponiendo al que la mira con detenimiento una sensación de opresión y asfixia digna de las grandes portadas del genero, el señor Juanjo Castellano a hecho un trabajo digno de un maestro y muy apropiado para la ocasión, le presento mis respetos. Desde el primer segundo de escucha esta Demo me transportó hacia terrenos desconocidos por mí hasta el momento, me extasió, quedé atrapado entre sus riffs y melodías como si fuesen paladas de petróleo, ese pestilente y oscuro vertido ponzoñoso que a veces ensucia y contamina nuestras costas, atrapando y engullendo a todo ser vivo que se cruza ante sus fauces, convirtiéndolo en pura muerte vestida de negro. No se me ocurre mejor definición para explicar como es el sonido de este trabajo, un sonido rudo y bruto, muy bestia que a mi personalmente me encanta. Estás 7 canciones son una pura delicia para los amantes de la vieja escuela, cuenta con un sonido exquisitamente podrido y espeso, brutalisimo, que hará babear a más de uno, es un orgasmo sónico de puro Death Metal sueco denso y viscoso, con tintes muy oscuros. Las canciones en general no son excesivamente técnicas o dificultosas, al contrario, su sencillez y armonía brutal hacen que sean temas fácilmente accesibles y recordables, disfrutables 100%. Sus registros e influencias están muy cercanas a bandas como BOLT THROWER, CRYPT OF KERBEROS, ETERNAL DARKNESS o CREMATORY (swe), aunque estas influencias están llevadas al extremo más excesivo conocido en su país de origen, me refiero a Suecia, nunca antes ninguna banda (y creo que después tampoco) de este país a sonado tan densa y pesada. Mis canciones favoritas son todas, pero en especial me quedo con “Concealing the Dayligthtâ€�, “World Devastatorâ€�, “Dimension of Darknessâ€� y mi favorita “The Dawn For Our Raceâ€�, son simplemente cuatro putas obras de arte que no gozan de reconocimiento alguno de momento, pero que para mi significan un antes y un después dentro de este genero y que le recomendaría a cualquiera que le guste el Death Metal hecho con sencillez, clase y talento, aderezado con un sonido espeso y oscuro como la noche del fin del mundo, subyugado por las tinieblas que cubren vuestras propias tumbas.
