Sea cual sea su nacionalidad y lugar de radicación, NANGILIMA factura un buenÃsimo trabajo con “Shards Of Loss†que mantiene la atención sobre el grupo de cara a dar continuidad en el futuro a “The Dark Matterâ€. Música para escuchar sin prisas y dejarse llevar por sus texturas y emociones transmitidas que son muchas. 20 minutos de navegación entre las aguas turbulentas de los sentimientos más oscuros y opresivos.
Nangilima – brzmi dość dźwięcznie. Na pewno zbyt dźwięcznie na nazwę zespołu określającego siebie jako grającego death/doom metal. Ale uwierzcie mi, że ta szwedzko-hiszpańska grupa potrafi zagrać wolno, ciężko, a jednocześnie melodyjnie. Dowodu dostarcza wydana w tym roku pod szyldem Xtreem Music EP-ka Shards of Loss. Szczególnie harmonijne i przepiękne tło dla snujących się powolnie gitar i perkusji to bardzo mocny atut tej niespełna 20 minutowej EP-ki.
Niewinne rozpoczęcie tytułowego kawałka stopniowo nabiera ciężaru. Przez cały czas nad całością krąży gotycki duch. Momentami wdziera się zdecydowanie w poszczególne fragmenty. Najwięcej uroku mają zwrotki, które na myśl przywołują dokonania chociażby Doom:VS. Bardzo intrygująco brzmią instrumenty klawiszowe, w niektórych momentach z lekkimi skłonnościami ku progresji. Pasuje to do całości, chwilami bardziej niż te nasycone gothic metalem inspiracje. Warto też zwrócić uwagę na linię basu, ukrytą gdzieś w tym gąszczu poszczególnych dźwięków, ale jednak istotną dla całokształtu. Bez tych wybijających się pojedynczych nut niektóre motywy zdecydowanie nie byłyby znacząco zaakcentowane.
Tę właściwą esencję surowego doom metalowego grania z głębokim death metalowym growlem słychać zdecydowanie w Fractions of a Shattered Soul. Kawałek pojawił się już w dyskografii wcześniej jako singiel, ale na potrzeby EP-ki został nagrany i zaaranżowany ponownie. Pomimo tego, że pierwotna wersja miała swój oziębły klimat, brzmienie było zdecydowanie bardziej szorstkie. Tutaj zaś nabrało większej klarowności i nieco przestrzeni. Klawisze w większości fragmentów melodyjnie uzupełniają całe instrumentarium, tworząc tym samym idealną harmonię. Zgrabnie też wprowadzają black metalowy motyw w środku utworu, który kończy się subtelnymi partiami fletu w tle. Ten lekki folkowy powiew na koniec fragmentu trochę rozprasza. Odniosłam wrażenie, że muzycy czasem chcą zawrzeć w swoich utworach bardzo dużo pomysłÃ³w, co niekoniecznie kończy się dobrze.
Na Shards of Loss Nangilima umieścili wbrew pozorom dwa odmienne utwory, w których ukazali swoje różne oblicza. Tym samym udowadniają, że warto zwrócić uwagę na twórczość zespołu, w której łączy się to, co w doom metalu tradycyjne i surowe z nutą nowocześniejszych rozwiązań. Może nie zawsze są to połączenia w pełni udane, ale jednak przykuwają uwagę słuchacza. W każdym razie słuchanie Shards of Loss jest refleksyjnym, przyjemnym, ale dość krótkim rytuałem.
Este es, sin duda, uno de esos trabajos que te deja con ganas de mas, de mucho mas. Y eso, pese a que me haga sentirme con los dientes largos durante una buena temporada, no hace mas que acrecentar mi gusto por escuchar esta obra, por un lado, y por otro odiarles por no dejarme mas que veinte minutos y dos temas de disfrute, de momento.
Estamos pues ante lo que espero y deseo sea el paso intermedio entre su “The Dark Matter†y su segunda obra completa.
Un Ep que se hace corto, como digo, y en el que nos vamos a encontrar con dos temas. Uno nuevo que da titulo al trabajo, y otro regrabado del que ya pudimos disfrutar en un single anterior en el 2014, “Fractions of a Shattered Soulâ€. No es nuevo este tema, pero como si lo fuera, pues ha sido destripado y de nuevo vuelta a estructurar para crear otro tema, digamos, casi desde cero.
Para hacer aun más atractivo a este trabajo estamos ante una edición limitada, en Digipack, muy resultón y que le da un valor máximo. Vamos, que lo hace de obligada compra. Otra cosa que hace que sea atractivo es la participación de Evilead (BIZARRE, ELDERDAWN), que se ha marcado un trabajazo en el bajo y arreglos de teclado.
Pero a lo que vamos, a la música. Esto es doom, doom/death, nada nuevo, pero a quien le importa!!! Bueno, a mi si que me importa, pero cuando la música te llega, como llegan estos NANGILIMA, esto suele quedar en un segundo plano. Y es que son capaces de crear ambientes, sonoridades y estructuras lúgubres, emotivas y casi funeral doom, en ciertos momentos y cercanos al Doom gotico en otros. Todo esto sin la necesidad de voces femeninas y con unas estructuras de piano que ponen la piel de gallina. Capas de estructuras clásicas a las teclas que elevan la obra a otra dimensión y, sobre todo, un bajo que lo envuelve todo en papel de regalo, un regalo que gana muchos enteros con este instrumento. No limitándose ni a seguir a la guitarra, ni a la baterÃa, tiene vida propia justo cuando lo necesita y se oculta en la multitud cuando ya no tiene que destacar. Sin duda de lo mejor.
Quizás una de las cosas que mejorarÃa es el sonido, por alejarse un poco de los cánones actuales, pero… estoy casi convencido de que esto es lo que han buscado, mas aun sabiendo que este trabajo ha corrido a cargo de su guitarra Nikola Velev. Nada que reprochar entonces.
El disco ha sido mezclado y masterizado por el guitarrista de la banda Nikolay Velev en Bulgaria, y aquà están los resultados de su trabajo, un puto Ãdolo. Creo que no se deberÃa dejar escapar la ocasión de tener en tu colección personal de música un EP como este, que además está limitado a unas 100 copias, las cuales una vez agotadas, nunca más se tendrá oportunidad de conseguir.
Nangilima are an international band that has been featured before in zine with members from Sweden, Bulgaria and Spain that h as been featured before in this zine and plays a blackened and atmospheric mixture of doom and death metal and this is a review of their 2016 ep "Shards Of Life" which was released by Xtreem Music.
Acoustic guitars start off the ep along with some keyboards a few seconds later that also bring in a touch of ambient and they also mix in with the heavier sections of the music which is also very heavily rooted in doom metal and the vocals are mostly death metal growls and you can also hear all of the musical instruments that are present on the recording.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are done in a very dark and melodic style and black metal screams can also be heard at times while both of the tracks are very long and epic in length and the music brings in a lot of 90's influences from the doom/death genre while also mixing it in with a more modern and atmospheric style and when the music speeds up a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard and towards the end there is a brief use of operatic female vocals.
Nangilima creates another recording that remains true to the keyboard orientated style of doom/death metal from previous recordings while also mixing in a great amount of black metal influences, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover sorrow, melancholy, nature and passion themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Nangilima and if you are a fan of atmospheric and blackened death/doom metal, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Shards Of Loss".
