Un poco de historia, UNREAL OVERFLOWS como ya he nombrado, proceden de Galicia, y es una banda surgida de las cenizas de los mÃticos ABSORBED, es más el nombre para esta nueva andadura procede del Ep de esta última banda.
Si tuviera que definir esta obra con una palabra, esa serÃa, espectacularidad sonora. Algo espectacular es lo que han parido estos chicos. Es más, ya en el año 2006 debutaron con “Arquitecture of Incomprehension†ofreciendo a la escena un material de altÃsimo nivel, al parecer Zoilo Santiago, Diego Bea, Jose Gonçalves y Jorge Rosales Portela, han vuelto a sacarse otro as de la manga, alcanzando una cota de mejorÃa que muy pocas bandas son capaces de proponer a la escena, hoy dÃa.
Es más, la voz de Zoilo Santiago, se parece mucho a la del genio Chuck. Le da un aire, pero no es igual, UNREAL OVERFLOWS demuestran tener un sonido propio muy trabajado e ingenioso, hasta ahora, pocos discos me habÃan llamado la atención tanto como este; desde las cotas y las escalas del primer corte, “Rotten Mentalityâ€, donde se puede ver las influencias DEATH en primera estancia, pasando por el incansable resurgimiento del bajo, que adopta para mÃ, lo que es uno de los mejores acompañamientos en un trabajo de estas caracterÃsticas.
Exquisitez mayúscula, una producción muy conseguida a pesar del lugar donde se ha grabado, sin contar a penas con medios, o mejor dicho, sin contar con estudios profesionales a como están acostumbradas muchas bandas. Trabajo meticuloso y muy concienzudo por parte de Zoilo en sus Unreal Studios, la nave para dar cabida esta floreada y sónica obra.
La nerviosa “Without Secrets†pronuncia sus melodÃas por un sendero laborioso, intensificado por unas guitarras más agudas, llevadas por solos más intrÃnsecos, adiós brutalidad para albergar el significado de lo PROGRESIVO, aunque la voz pone la guinda más bruta, distintos vocerÃos añaden algo más de autenticidad a una pieza que contiene una parte intermedia que la diferencia del resto; variedad y por si fuera poco “Last Failure†se erige con unos gruñidos más adversos con unas puntiagudas y melosas sonoridades por asà decirlo, aunque la velocidad no cesa en el intento por plasmar el caos, albergando tantas variaciones, otorgando dinamismo, adversidad y destrucción.
La esfera rojiza explosiona sus migajas, la crudeza y los medios tiempos de dicha canción, envuelven el tácito manto de “Out of Sphereâ€. “A Few Eager Men†es iniciada por unas protuberancias llenas de tecnicismos, cabalgantes y machacones, unificando fuerzas con la guitarra acústica y unos cánticos infernales, remezclando más ideales y la incansable imaginación por sorprender al oyente, igual ocurre con “Primary Instinctâ€, casi dos minutos orquestados por una parsimonia repleta de senderos fugaces y la sintetizada ambición de UNREAL OVERFLOWS por desmarcarse del resto de propuestas ofreciendo algo más ambicioso; algo a lo que muy pocos están acostumbrados en este paÃs, un disco protagonista en su mayor medida, intensivo, agotador y con una cadencia capaz de hacer temblar los mismÃsimos cimientos de la tierra. ¡¡Sencillamente sublime!!
Don’t know how correct I am in assuming that the band name has something to do with the fucked up weather we see all over the place. Massive floodings in Australia, below zero snowstorms in the Middle East, people freezing to death in the south of Europe. Hopefully the music will warm us enough to dry up and defrost so that we can mosh like crazy. Lately I’ve been hearing more and more bands that remind me of Death at its most progressive end. This too makes me think of that very last Death album. And I like it. I didn’t know how much I missed Death until I got to hear all these bands that reminds me of how great Death really was and how sad it all ended. If you like your death metal on the more technical and progressive side of thing then this album will be right up your sleeve. Another cool metal album to add to my collection.
The Spanish Unreal Overflows is heading forward for quite a while already and the ones paying attention could instantly tell that their individual history outstretches that of the band quite extensively. This is only their second album, after forming in 2001. In 2006 they already released the album Architecture Of Incomprehension. But it is not like they sat on their hands all the time. Particularly not in their personal development. They play progressive death metal, from the likes of Pestilence and Cynic, with topics to match that. So no songs about raping nuns and playing soldier. Unreal Overflow dares to pursue a bit more introspection.
In terms of music it indeed is a combination of frivolity and muscularity. But for a seasoned metal fan I must say that probably the only thing that sounds rough or vile are the vocals. The music is quite open and fresh, with of course the necessary alternations in pace and rhythms, like you may expect from a band carrying the label progressive. Theres a huge discussion on YouTube about the vocals. One compares it directly with black metal, the other one scornfully comments that what Chuck Schuldiner (Death) did on Sound Of Perseverance was no black metal either. With the usual attitude of course.
But from my perspective I am seriously tempted to say that those who compare it with black metal have a plausible angle, just by the sound of it. It is a pallid scream with a shriekish sound in it, rawer than what Chuck did, by any means. But the band stands on itself, so it is not suiting to be mentioning other bands all the time. But it is obvious to make the comparison. They found a good balance between power and refinement all together, but I personally think that their eagerness to get their qualities in the spotlight prevails over the feeling a bit too much. And I dont reproduce what they did, but still it is not truly mind-blowing, really. Within the genre theres a lot more fun stuff available. Still, all credits to these musicians.
Nie powiem, żebym jakoś szczególnie czekał na drugi album hiszpańskiego UNREAL OVERFLOWS, ale skoro już wypichcili coś nowego, to odsłuchałem i uważam, że nawet jeśli nie jest to kawałek oryginalnej muzy, to oparta jest na tak dobrych wzorcach, że już po pierwszych dźwiękach „Rotten Mentality†byłem zaciekawiony co będzie dalej. Zwłaszcza, że nie tylko inspiracje są ważne na „False Welfareâ€, ale i naprawdę świetne wykonanie. Po wypełnionym technicznym, progresywnym death metalem debiucie pt. „Architecture of Incomprehension†Hiszpanie proponują rozwinięcie swojej wizji w postaci dziewięciu nowych i okrutnie połamanych rytmicznie kawałków, które aż krzyczą, że powstały pod wpływem ostatnich albumów DEATH, ale wśród wzorców można by wymienić PESTILENCE, CYNIC, GOJIRA, ATHEIST, OBSCURA, NECROPHAGIST czy MESHUGGAH. O ile jeszcze przywołany „Rotten Mentality†to kawałek stosunkowo nieskomplikowany, to co powiecie na pokręcony w warstwie muzycznej „When Time Is Upâ€? Tu mamy już nie tak oczywiste rozwiązania melodyczne, mieszający okrutnie bas, wręcz jazzowe partie perkusji, a w środkowej części akustyczną gitarę, która nawiązuje do motywów flamenco i diabli wie czego jeszcze. Gitarowe leady zmieniają się jak w kalejdoskopie i są powyginane jak cholera i jedynie lekko blackujący wokal w stylu Chucka Schuldinera mówi, że to album jednak na wskroś metalowy. Dalej też nie jest łatwo i przyjemnie, ale wbrew pozorom to kawał muzy, której chce się słuchać i słuchać i chłonąć, choć nie nazwałbym jej mianem muzyki dla muzyków, czy jak to zwykle się określa w przypadku tak trudnych pod każdym względem płyt. Ci kolesie naprawdę potrafią grać i robią to z taką lekkością, że aż nie do wiary, iż udało im się opanować materię, w jakiej się poruszają. Bo to faktycznie majstersztyk, by z takiego chaosu ulepić kawałki, które mają przysłowiowe ręce i nogi, a do tego dostarczać tyle pomysłÃ³w godnych mistrzów technicznego death metalu. Szkoda by było, żeby ten album przepadł w oceanie różnych badziewiastych produkcji, jakimi jesteśmy raczeni każdego tygodnia, a więc i ja zakrzyknę, że „False Welfare†należy się pełny szacun, gdyż to wydawnictwo nad wyraz udane i wymagające od słuchacza czegoś więcej niż tylko miarowego potupywania nóżką.
