1er álbum de esta banda española liderada por Volundr (SVIPDAGR) y Lianne KrosSburner (EDENKAISER) donde practican un crudo y melódico Pagan Black Metal influenciado por bandas como THYRFING, MOONSORROW, ARKONA, PRIMORDIAL, BATHORY...
ITNUVETH is a two piece Black Metal band from Spain. Interesting enough, they do have a very strong Heavy Metal approach, as well as some elements that might qualify them as Pagan Metal. Truth is that the Heavy Metal part is quite strong here and even if I am sure they are using a drum machine, it is done quite right. The vocals are diabolically performed by a female and those are more into the usual Black Metal shrieks, although a bit more controlled and not that high pitched. The style reminds me of obvious BATHORY to WINDIR and some ENSLAVED. The Folk parts actually recall more of the Power Metal - esque of bands rather than the more extreme ones, but in all sound quite adequate. Although I am sure I have heard very similar riffs here and there, ITNUVETH does it in a pretty convincing way. I will not be surprised if by a new album the vocals change or the music becomes more atmospheric, as it sometimes can be felt in the aura they play. If you are a fan of the style, then go look for this one right now, and do not get fooled by the somewhat cartoony cover art, which anyway depicts the music in more than a way.
Itnuveth is the band of Volunder (guitar, bass) and Lianne Krossburner (vocals, lyrics). This duo hails from Barcelona in Spain and plays rigorous, yet melodic black/pagan metal. The band was founded in 2013 with heathen collectives such as Thyrfing, Moonsorrow and Bathory in mind as huge inspiration. However, there are still some practical objections between their dream and the reality. The recording quality is a flaw, but maybe they did this old school approach on purpose. The songs are quite simple in structure. Lianne does some proper blackened screams and especially the melodious guitar solos of Volunder are charming. In a longer track like ‘Legacy Of A Dead Wolf’’ it leaps to the eye that the same melody always comes back. Yet, the calm, atmospheric passages in ‘Skoll’ and ‘Black Henbane’ are a fine break. The opulence of soloing is a pro, although those leads should not always promptly follow the vocal lines like in ‘Lif In Hoddmimis Holt’. There is a dark, slightly mysterious atmosphere on this record, but it is not a high-flyer. Nevertheless, this is only the beginning without preceding demos, that’s why we say: room for improvement.
Seguimos con “Black henbane“, donde vuelve la caña y velocidad. Es ya marca de la casa esa guitarra melódica, que parece en ocasiones que acompaña a la voz o bien armoniza la lÃnea vocal. “Chaotic chasm†toca la parte más oscura y enfurecida del estilo, alternando diversos cambios a pasajes más calmados, en los cuales toma un gran protagonismo la guitarra en acústico con unas voces muy sugerentes. El tema “Northern demons†me parece de diez. Inspira tralla, oscuridad y maldad. Mi preferido de todo el disco, aunque seguido muy de cerca por “Death we are“.
ITNUVETH es una de esas bandas formadas por buenos músicos, con ganas de crear, ofrecer y dar todo lo que llevan dentro. Y al final eso se nota y hace que atraigan seguidores, que se les aprecie y se les desee que lleguen muy lejos. Se lo merecen.
Para escuchar el Nuevo trabajo de ITNUVETH es necesario que nos traslademos en el tiempo, a los tiempos del auge de bandas como VENOM, BATHORY, ULVER… Partiendo de ese punto, podemos sumergirnos tranquilamente en la música de este proyecto de Pagan Black Metal, y de su recientemente editado The Way of the Berserker.
Legacy of a Dead Wolf nos sumerge en ese sonido crudo, desgarrador y deliberadamente descuidado. No hablamos de falta de medios, pues sin ir más lejos, el disco ha sido mezclado por Dave Rotten en los Xtreem Music Mastering Studios. Este es el sonido que la banda buscaba, y se nota en cada tema.
Death we Are continúa rebuscando en esa vorágine de guitarras saturadas y baterÃas programadas, mientras la voz de Lianne desgarra cada verso al estilo más pagano. Encontramos pinceladas de exploración aquà y allá, como los iniciales acordes de Sköll o las narraciones en Chaotic Chasm, mientras que el grueso del disco se abandona a un Black Metal más fiero y efectivo.
No es difÃcil empaparse una y otra vez con temas como Black Henbane o LÃf in HoddmÃmis Holt, con estructuras rápidas donde no prima la contundencia de sonido, sino que la banda se esfuerza en plasmar un sonido cercano y real. Las guitarras llevan en todo momento la delantera, dirigiendo las melodÃas con acordes rápidos y agudos, que más que con la percusión, se refuerzan con la voz gutural.
When someone says the phrase "Viking themed Pagan Black Metal", you're more inclined to think that a band that writes this kind of music comes from Northern Europe, or maybe even mainland Europe. The first place you would think of definitely wouldn't be Spain. But this is where the band ITNUVETH hail from, more specifically, the city of Barcelona. Just after releasing their first full length with Xtreem Music, "The Way of the Berserker", they are ready to take the world by storm, like the Vikings of old.
After the Folky intro, "The Learning" has come and gone, the album proper begins, with the track "Legacy of a Dead Wolf". This is very cool, Melodic Black Metal, which evokes images of cold lands and long journeys. This mammoth seven-minute track has a very epic feel to it, coupled with the harsh, Black Metal edge. "Death We Are" is another fast, melodic piece of Black Metal which works incredibly well, and has more of an element of being able to hum along to the music than many other Black Metal bands have. "Skoll", the obligatory drinking song, has a very uplifting sound to it, and plenty of great riffs. "Black Henbane" is another really fierce sounding Black Metal track, and has a lot of power to it as well. Overall, the production of this record is the thing that makes it. It has a rawness to it, most noticeable on tracks such as "Chaotic Chasm", whilst having a much more polished production which means it will be more accessible to those outside of the Black Metal underground. The highlight of this album is the Blackened Pagan masterpiece that is "Northern Demons". This song is monolithic, and will likely be a crowd favorite in the near future. "Lif in Hoddmimis Holt" opens with a very atmospheric intro, which gives way to being a really good Black Metal tune. The last song on the album is "Lianne", which, at fewer than two minutes, is the shortest full track on the album. It is very atmospheric, and has a much cleaner guitar line than the rest of the record. The guitars are complemented by the soft vocals that are layered over the top. It's a great way to bring this album to a close.
For a first release, this is very good. It's clear that this band have already begun to establish their own sound within the Black Metal scene, and in all seriousness, it is a great sound. This will appeal to fans of Black Metal, in both its raw and more accessible forms, and it may even garner attention from those outside the Black Metal scene to some extent. The framework for a list of solid releases is there, and with any luck, the next album will be even better than this one.
Otro nuevo proyecto que nace en el paÃs y que acaba de lanzar su debut es la banda catalana Itnuveth compuesta por Volundr (Svipdagr) que se encarga de las cuerdas, y a la voz tenemos a Lianne Krossburner (Edenkaiser), una chica con muy buena voz que ya va cogiendo ritmo con sus dos bandas.
Itnuveth viene a practicar un melódico Pagan Black muy inspirado en la mitologÃa nórdica, riffs en su mayorÃa llenos de sentimiento y una baterÃa programada compuesta a modo de sesión por un tal Daniel, el trabajo ha sido masterizado por Dave Rotten en Sanctuary Studios (estudio que se ha montado David para sus diferentes proyectos y que ya empieza a recibir demanda).
No obstante el trabajo de producción y grabación podrÃa haber quedado un poco mejor, pasa del suficiente pero esta clase de bandas se disfrutan mucho más con una producción perfecta ya que sus melodÃas y partes emotivas se digieren mucho mejor.
La música recoge influencias sobre todo de bandas como Kampfar, Moonsorrow, Thyrfing, Bornholm, etc, bandas donde te sumerges de lleno en los comienzos de la edad media, bosques frondosos y nevados bajo el aullido del lobo, esa sensación inspira cada tema de Itnuveth.
El disco está compuesto de 7 cortes más intro y outro, la presentación está muy lograda con mucho colorido y una portada que recrea el tÃtulo del disco con dos guerreros "Berserkers" recorriendo un pasaje cubierto por un manto de nieve.
Si os gustan este tipo de bandas seguramente Itnuveth os caigan en gracia, a mi me ha gustado pero creo que si le prestan más tiempo y ganas en un segundo trabajo, seguramente logren superarse ya que hay muchas partes mejorables. En definitiva, es un disco que pasa el suficiente, pero estoy seguro de que aún pueden hacerlo mejor, y seguro que asà será en un futuro camino de Berserkers.
Por fin tenemos disponible el debut discográfico de ITNUVETH banda/proyecto formada por Volundr (SVIPDAGR) que aquà se encarga de toda la parte instrumental del disco (guitarras y bajo) junto con Lianne Krossburner (EDENKAISER) ocupándose de las voces y además aportando cada una de las letras del álbum y Daniel que se ha encargado de las baterÃas programadas.
En la hoja promocional nos hablan de su inspiración por la mitologÃa nórdica y de sus influencias musicales en grupos pioneros dentro del Pagan Black Metal como BATHORY, KAMPFAR, BORKNAGAR, SORGSVART, ARKONA o los primerÃsimos ULVER y a su favor hay que decir que no solo se mueven por ese abecedario sino que sobre esas bases se han andado con muchÃsima cautela a la hora de añadirle detalles y sentimientos de los más diversos.
Spanish Metal, you say? I know you can’t see it but I am raising my hand because yes, please! And let me tell you . . . it’s worth it. Itnuveth’s debut album “The Way of the Berserker†is an ancient-themed album (as if you couldn’t tell already) and has an almost literal electric feel to it with black metal that is infused with a little bit of thrash. Although, there’s not enough thrash for me to call this a thrash metal album it’s still very noticeable and a very welcome addition because I’m all for thrash metal in just about any situation and it does a lot of justice for the black metal that’s good on its own here. Itnuveth has a sound that I feel people looking for the slightly rawer end of ancient-themed music can get into pretty easily especially with that cover which deserves points just on its own to me. Overall “The Way of the Berserker†gets a might high two thumbs up for me simply because it sounds great and has a feel that many people are into across the planet so there’s no reason why they wouldn’t enjoy Itnuveth.
Nos llega una nueva banda a la escena nacional del metal extremo. Nos referimos a los catalanes Itnuveth. Aunque son de aquÃ, la música que nos proponen nos evoca a lugares lejanos donde todo es inhóspito, salvaje y sin lugar a la bondad. Los sonidos que nos ofrecen el combo formado por Volundr (guitarra/bajo) y Lianne Krosbunner (vocal/lyrics) nos meten de lleno en el Viking Pagan Black Metal. Las influencias en tanto su estilo como en sus composiciones, además de beber claramente de la mitologÃa nórdica, en lo musical encuentran su inspiración en bandas tipo Borknagar, Ulver, Moonsorrow o Vintersorg.
¡Vaya! Parece que el amigo Rotten y su sello Xtreem Music le han cogido el gustillo a esto de editar pequeñas joyitas de vez en cuando y cada vez con más variedad estilÃstica para elegir (EMETH, TRASCËNDENTAL, NANGILIMA, DYING OUT FLAME, DEATH VOMIT, AZOOMA, WARLORD UK, WRONG, DESECRESY, INFEST, FROZEN DAWN, APOSENTO o SVIPDAGR, por nombrar solo a unas cuantas), llevan un ritmo insuperable, esperemos aún quede alguna sorpresa interesante más en el tintero, de aquà a finales de año.
Digo alguna más porque el disco que me traigo entre manos ahora mismo “The Way of the Berserkerâ€, es simplemente eso, sorprendente, que conste que no quiero perder la objetividad en halagos banales, merece la pena oÃrlo y analizar lo que nos ofrece ITNUVETH en este álbum, pero no sin antes hacer las presentaciones necesarias de cortesÃa.
