Conmemorando 30 años, este 2-CD incluye todas sus demos y temas inéditos así como ambas demos de CATALEPSY!! Voices From the Darkside (ger) 08.03.2015 When I was young I frequently listened to a weekly German Heavy Metal radio show called "Scream" on WDR1 and one day in 1986 the DJ played a song from “Recognize No Authorityâ€� which totally blew me away. The next day I went to the next record store and bought that album. Since then this is one of my absolute fave albums. “Recognize No Authorityâ€� is also one of the most underrated and unrecognized Thrash albums ever! What makes that album so special is the ass-kicking songwriting, the powerful riffs, the awesome lead guitar, the strong production and the unique vocal style of Dawn Crosby (R.I.P.). I’m not the biggest fan of female Metal vocals but Dawn had a very, very special voice. Her voice had an incredible intense and raw power, she sounded so aggressive, so vicious and so full of energy. In my humble opinion she had the ultimate female Thrash voice. 1986 was an excellent and glorious year for the Thrash and Speed Metal genre because masterpieces such as “Reign In Bloodâ€�, “Master Of Puppetsâ€�, “Darkness Descendsâ€�, “Eternal Devastationâ€� were released back then. I surely would also put “Recognize No Authorityâ€� on this list, if you think that’s blasphemy then just go and listen to this mighty album. I’m pretty sure the quality of incredible great songs such as 'Losers', 'Russian Roulette', 'Vultures In The Sky', 'Holy Wars' or 'Shattered Illusions' will convince every Thrash Metal lover. Unfortunately nothing the band released after their debut album is really worth mentioning. Also Dawn’s new band FEAR OF GOD and CATALEPSY (the band that was founded by three ex - DÉTENTE musicians) were not able to deliver anything that could come close to “Recognize No Authorityâ€�. Anyway, this is a hell of a worthy re-release and there is a lot of bonus stuff on this two disc set: disc 1 includes the entire debut album plus two songs re-recorded in 2010 by the reunion line-up and Tiina Teal on vocals and disc 2 includes four DÉTENTE demos from 1984, 1985, 1987, 1989, a rehearsal track and a live track from 1985 and two CATALEPSY demos from 1987 and 1988. So that’s a lot value for your money but like I said before nothing of this stuff is as good as “Recognize No Authorityâ€�. Nevertheless, I highly recommend this re-release to you just because Dawn's voice is incredible and “Recognize No Authorityâ€� is one of the top Thrash Metal albums of all times and definitely a must have. So if you never listened to DÉTENTE but call yourself a Thrash Metal fan then something went horrible wrong in your life but fortunately you now have the chance to change that. Hacker Lords of Metal ezine (hol) 13.02.2015 Quite surprised I was when I got this re-release of ‘Recognize No Authority’ (1986) from colleague Pim B.. Didn’t Cognitive Records re-release ‘RNA’ in 2007? Yes, they did. But this re-release by Xtreem Music is certainly worth the purchase even though one might already own the original of this this cult classic or the 2007 re-release. Because besides ‘Recognize No Authority’ the double CD also features a CD chockfull with all of Détente’s demos, including the two that feature songs that would eventually pop up on Fear Of God’s ‘Within The Veil’, and also a rehearsal by Détente and live recordings. Also featured are two demos by Catalepsy, how the band named itself after Dawn Crosby left Détente. Back to ‘Recognize No Authority’, sound wise I don’t hear a lot of difference when comparing it to the original recording, unless it’s the volume level which is now higher. Instrumental song ‘Catalepsy’ has been re-recorded, just like ‘Blood I Bleed’. ‘Blood I Bleed’ now features Tiina Teal on vocals. The short period of time Détente was active again a couple of years ago she handled the vocals. And to be honest Tiina does this impressively well. She really comes extremely close to the desperation that characterized Dawn’s vocals. Anyone not familiar with Détente… expect thrash, which leans towards crossover, with female vocals that at times sound quite hysteric and desperate but also have the needed power to it. Marcel H. Xtreem Music (spa) 23.12.2014 Haciendo balance, 2014 ha sido un año productivo y provechoso, en el que numerosas bandas se han dado a conocer a nivel debut, más allá de puntuales demos, splits o discos en formato EP. Otras, mucho más rodadas, han plasmado buenos trabajos. Incluso varios grupos de cabecera han puesto el listón bastante alto, algunos con gran nivel, aunque los hay que simplemente “manteniendo el tipoâ€� ya ofrecen material más que apetecible, algo difícil de reprochar, y que en ocasiones es lo único que se pide. Pero lo cierto es que también ha habido los típicos bajones, en forma de trabajos aburridos, no por ello malos. Claro, por no hablar de algunos discos bastante cuestionables. Nunca llueve a gusto de todos, ni todos los grupos tienen una buena racha al mismo tiempo. Es el juego del día a día. Pero lo que también nos ha ofrecido el presente cadáver deambulante, que cuenta sus horas para ver cómo pasa al otro barrio a través de las campanas de la muerte, las mismas que marcan el primer segundo de vida de su bastardo relevo, es una cantidad notoria de álbumes reeditados, clásicos y no tanto (aunque como mínimo, documentos indudables… ), en forma de rescates más que apetecibles y con un tratamiento sonoro y de edición gráfica que bien vale su peso en oro: GOD DETHRONED, INFAMOUS SINPHONY, ADRAMELECH, CEMETERY, CANKER, GODEFFIED, TRASCËNDENTAL, BRUTALITY, MORGUE, AVULSED, SPINA BIFIDA, NUM SKULL, el Re-Press de los míticos suecos EPITAPH… o el disco que nos ocupa: DÉTENTE “Recognize no Authorityâ€�, en versión 2-CD, y conteniendo un material extra impresionante. Claro, todavía queda aportar la nota subjetiva. Y no es otra que, para el que suscribe, ese material tan conocido por muchos como desconocido e infravalorado por otros, se erige en caballo ganador de la temporada. Por sorpresivo, por ser casi único en su especie, por formar parte de una historia que apenas duró pero que ha trascendido como leyenda. Y que al frente de su formación estuviera la cantante Dawn Crosby, aportando una baza innegable de frescura y fuerza, no hace sino reforzar la teoría. Posiblemente, junto al “Depths of Deathâ€� de SENTINEL BEAST (un caso ciertamente similar), constituya uno de los trabajos más deliciosamente explosivos, únicos y casi enterrados de la época. En aquel glorioso pero ya lejano 1986, discos como “Master of Puppetsâ€�, “Reign in Bloodâ€� o “Peace Sells but… Who´s Buying?â€� arrasaron sin piedad, volando hacia otro nivel y dejando muy en segundo plano a potentes joyas como “The Forceâ€�, “Nightmare Theatreâ€�, “Brutal Destructionâ€�, “Recognize no Autorithyâ€�, el citado “Depths of Deathâ€�, “Death & Insanityâ€� o al mismo “Doomsday for the Deceiverâ€�, por increíble que esto último parezca. Y esto es algo que el tiempo ha dejado muy claro, ya que algunos de estos trabajos solo forman parte de los altares de los más fanáticos/románticos, posiblemente los que en su día gozaron de sus mieles y ahora los llevan en sus genes. Respecto a los americanos DÉTENTE y su magnífico debut, solo queda decir y recordar que veintiocho años después de su lanzamiento original, vuelve a ver la luz en inmejorables condiciones. Uno de los discos más exclusivo del movimiento Thrash Metal, bajo la supervisión y neo-manufactura del sello Xtreem Music. La mítica portada muestra sin tapujos que a nivel social, pocas cosas han cambiado, realmente. Para los que ya lo tienen, y que guardan cassette o vinilo como oro en paño, es una ocasión única de hacerse además con todas las Demos de la propia banda y del proyecto paralelo CATALEPSY, así como un par de tracks regrabados por la formación en 2010, antes de desaparecer de forma definitiva y tras una reunión de muy pocos años. Además se incluyen Liner notes, las letras de las canciones, numerosas fotografías de la banda, carteles de conciertos… toda una parte de aquella época mágica, plasmada en otro libreto fantástico. Y para los que no lo tienen, no hace falta decir que ya podéis correr: porque de lamentarse habrá tiempo… pero de cazar esta joya, no tanto. Por cierto, matriculada como XM 166 CD. Sirva esta reflexión para agradecer y apoyar el esfuerzo de todos los sellos que creen en lo que publican, actual o reeditado, porque solo publican lo que les gusta, incluso arriesgando lo que en ocasiones no hay garantía de recuperar. Ahí reside la honestidad, la gran diferencia entre el negocio atroz y la más pura supervivencia en pro de un apoyo incondicional a la escena, no exenta de plena y en ocasiones ingrata pero necesaria dedicación.
