AVULSED continues digging into the roots of Nordic Death Metal with the third advance track from its upcoming covers album "Nordic Embryogenesis": a sick and twisted reinterpretation of "Abduction of Limbs", taken from the second demo released by Norway's OLD FUNERAL in 1990.

Dave Rotten himself comments the following about this song:

      "The Norwegian band OLD FUNERAL absolutely drove me crazy with their second demo, "Abduction of Limbs" (1990). I must have listened to it thousands of times! Their style was very different from what was happening in Sweden or Finland, delivering a sick, twisted, unpredictable, and ever-changing blend of influences from bands like CARCASS, MORBID ANGEL and IMMOLATION, but with an even darker and more sinister atmosphere.

      Interestingly, a certain Olve Eikemo, better known as Abbath, future leader of IMMORTAL, handled bass and vocals in the band. Even more curious, a certain Christian, later known worldwide as Varg Vikernes of BURZUM, played guitar on the 7"EP they recorded a year after this demo.

      OLD FUNERAL never released a full-length album. As far as I knew back then, they actually started recording one but never finished it. Some of those recordings later surfaced on a compilation featuring both demos, the EP, and a few live tracks, which ultimately became the complete legacy of this outstanding band.

      I wasn't entirely sure how this cover would turn out, as it's a style quite different from our own, and deciphering some of the instrumental parts was a real challenge. But honestly, I think we've achieved an incredible result!".

El propio Dave Rotten, comenta lo siguiente sobre esta canción:

      "Los noruegos OLD FUNERAL fueron una banda que me volvió absolutamente loco desde que escuché su segunda demo, "Abduction of Limbs" (1990). ¡La habré escuchado miles de veces! Su estilo era muy diferente a lo que se cocía en Suecia o Finlandia: una enfermiza, alocada, retorcida y cambiante mezcla de influencias de bandas como CARCASS, MORBID ANGEL o IMMOLATION, pero con un aura todavía más maléfica.

      Curiosamente, un tal Olve Eikemo, al que todos conocemos como Abbath, futuro líder de IMMORTAL, era el bajista y vocalista de la banda. Y un tal Christian, más conocido después como Varg Vikernes de BURZUM, fue el guitarrista en el 7" EP que grabaron un año después de esta demo.

      OLD FUNERAL nunca llegaron a publicar un álbum. Por lo que supe en aquella época, llegaron incluso a empezar a grabarlo, pero nunca lo terminaron. Años después, parte de ese material acabó apareciendo en un recopilatorio que reunía sus dos demos, el EP y algunos temas en directo, constituyendo todo el legado que nos dejó esta fantástica banda.

      No tenía del todo claro cómo iba a quedar esta versión, ya que su estilo es muy diferente al nuestro y, además, descifrar algunas de las partes instrumentales fue un auténtico reto. Pero, sinceramente, creo que hemos conseguido un resultado realmente increíble".

      Una nueva pieza de este oscuro rompecabezas será revelada cada viernes hasta el 4 de Septiembre.
