The journey through the catacombs of Scandinavian Death Metal returns to Finland to resurrect one of its most forgotten gems. AVULSED revives "Female Sabbath", a monumental seven-minute track taken from PHLEGETHON's second demo, "Neutral Forest" (1990), another piece that will be featured on "Nordic Embryogenesis".

Dave Rotten himself comments the following about this song:

      "We're back in Finland with one of the most challenging songs of the whole project, not only because it's 7 minutes long, but also due to its complex structures, constant tempo changes and... fuck, it felt like it was never going to end, haha! This track comes from "Neutral Forest", the second demo recorded in 1990 by the Finnish band PHLEGETHON. Their first demo was excellent, with a rawer and wilder style, but I think it was on this second one that the band reached its compositional peak. This song is almost like two songs in one. It has everything: intensity, melody, aggression, brutality and atmosphere...

      This demo was an absolute gem, and what struck me the most were the band photos. The members were barely 16 years old, which means they had started the band when they were only 14! Even so, they already showed an incredible ability to write songs, generally long, full of nuances and quite different from what was happening in Finland at the time, partly thanks to the strong Thrash influence running through their compositions.

      After these two demos they recorded an EP in 1991 that kept the same high standard, but in 1995 they released another demo that drifted somewhat away from their original style, and shortly afterwards the band split up. In 2005, Lasse Pyykkö, the mastermind behind HOODED MENACE, recorded two demos and a few standalone tracks under the PHLEGETHON name, although the band never truly reunited. Even so, PHLEGETHON remains one of my all-time favourite Finnish Death Metal bands, and "Neutral Forest" is still an absolute classic that I never get tired of listening to".

AVULSED revive "Female Sabbath", un monumental tema de siete minutos incluido en la segunda demo de PHLEGETHON, "Neutral Forest" (1990), una nueva pieza que formará parte de "Nordic Embryogenesis".

El propio Dave Rotten, comenta lo siguiente sobre esta canción:

      "Volvemos a Finlandia con uno de los temas más complicados de todos, no sólo porque dura 7 minutos, sino por la complejidad de sus estructuras, los continuos cambios de ritmo y... joder, ¡parecía que no iba a terminar nunca, jaja! Este tema está extraído de la segunda demo, "Neutral Forest", grabada en 1990 por los finlandeses PHLEGETHON. Su primera demo era excelente, con un estilo más crudo y salvaje, pero creo que fue en esta segunda donde la banda alcanzó su mejor nivel compositivo. Esta canción es como si fuesen dos en una: lo tiene todo, intensidad, melodía, agresividad, brutalidad y atmósfera...

      Esta demo era una auténtica joya, y lo que más chocaba eran las fotos de los miembros, que apenas tenían 16 años, lo que significa que la banda comenzó cuando sólo tenían 14. Aun así, demostraban una habilidad increíble para componer temas, generalmente largos, llenos de matices y bastante diferentes de lo que se hacía en Finlandia por aquellos años, en parte gracias al marcado toque Thrash que impregnaba sus composiciones.

      Tras estas dos demos grabaron un EP en 1991 que mantenía el nivel, pero en 1995 publicaron una demo que se alejaba un poco de su estilo y, poco después, se disolvieron. En 2005, Lasse Pyykkö, cerebro de HOODED MENACE, grabó dos demos y algún tema suelto bajo el nombre de PHLEGETHON, aunque la banda nunca llegó a reformarse realmente. Aun así, PHLEGETHON sigue estando entre mis bandas finlandesas favoritas, y "Neutral Forest" continúa siendo un auténtico clásico que nunca me canso de escuchar".
