The depths of Finnish Death Metal open once again with the seventh installment of "Nordic Embryogenesis". AVULSED revives "Why Do I Watch the Dawn?", one of the hidden treasures from the historic split album shared by CARTILAGE and ALTAR in 1992.

Dave Rotten himself comments the following about this song:

      "Not everything coming out of Finland was dark and heavy Death Metal, which was perhaps what attracted me the most to that scene, over the Swedish one, where many bands tended to sound much more alike. A perfect example of Finland's diversity was CARTILAGE, who combined intense, twisted and highly structured Death Metal with beautifully crafted melodies and, above all, the incredible drumming of a very young Kai Hahto, who would later go on to play in bands such as ROTTEN SOUND, WINTERSUN, NIGHTWISH, and many others. His technique was far beyond what you would expect from an 18-year-old back then, when the influences and learning resources available were nothing like they are today.

      Although their second demo, "In Godly Flesh" (1991), is one of my favourite recordings from the entire Finnish scene, I decided to choose this particular song, which appeared on their 1992 split album with the Swedish band ALTAR. In fact, those five tracks were originally intended to become their third demo, but I was the one who suggested releasing them as a split, since ALTAR had also just recorded their third demo, and putting out another EP felt a bit too short. In the end, it became one of the most highly regarded split albums of that era. This song also featured a spoken section in the middle, which I wasn't quite sure how to approach at first, but I think I eventually managed to pull it off quite convincingly.

      Unfortunately, after that recording, CARTILAGE joined the long list of bands that never went on to record a full-length album. I'm convinced it would have become one of the true classics of Finnish Death Metal. I have absolutely no doubt about that. The musicians later went on to play in bands such as VOMITURITION and ENOCHIAN CRESCENT, among many others".

     Las profundidades del Death Metal finlandés vuelven a abrirse con la séptima entrega de "Nordic Embryogenesis". AVULSED recupera "Why Do I Watch the Dawn?", uno de los grandes tesoros escondidos del histórico Split que CARTILAGE compartió con ALTAR en 1992.

El propio Dave Rotten, comenta lo siguiente sobre esta canción:

      "De Finlandia no todo era Death Metal oscuro y pesado, que era quizá lo que más me atraía de aquella escena, por encima de la sueca, donde los grupos tendían a sonar mucho más similares entre sí. Un buen ejemplo de esa diversidad eran CARTILAGE, que combinaban un Death Metal intenso, retorcido y muy bien estructurado con unas melodías perfectamente integradas y, sobre todo, con la impresionante forma de tocar la batería de un jovencísimo Kai Hahto, quien más tarde acabaría militando en bandas como ROTTEN SOUND, WINTERSUN, NIGHTWISH y muchas otras. Su técnica estaba muy por encima de la de cualquier chaval de 18 años de aquella época, cuando las referencias y los recursos para aprender no eran, ni de lejos, los de hoy.

      Aunque su segunda demo, "In Godly Flesh" (1991), es una de mis grabaciones favoritas de toda la escena finlandesa, opté por elegir este tema, incluido en el álbum compartido con los suecos ALTAR en 1992. En realidad, esos cinco temas iban a constituir su tercera demo, pero fui yo quien les propuso editarlo como un Split, ya que ALTAR también acababan de grabar su tercera demo y sacar un EP se me quedaba un poco corto. Al final terminó convirtiéndose en uno de los álbumes compartidos más apreciados de aquella época. Además, esta canción incluía una parte hablada en su sección central que, al principio, no tenía muy claro cómo enfocar, aunque creo que finalmente conseguí resolverla de una forma bastante convincente.

      Lamentablemente, tras aquella grabación, CARTILAGE pasó a engrosar la larga lista de bandas que nunca llegaron a registrar un álbum. Estoy convencido de que, de haberlo hecho, habría sido uno de los grandes clásicos del Death Metal finlandés; de eso no tengo la menor duda. Sus músicos continuarían después en otras bandas como VOMITURITION o ENOCHIAN CRESCENT, entre muchas otras".
