Before Norwegian Black Metal devoured everything in its path, AMPUTATION were spitting Death Metal from the deepest, most cavernous depths of the abyss. AVULSED now resurrects "Heavenly Grace", taken from their 2nd demo from 1990, turning it into the 10th descent into the depths of "Nordic Embryogenesis". From their ashes, IMMORTAL would later emerge.

Dave Rotten himself comments the following about this song:

      "Norway never had a particularly prolific Death Metal scene, as although a few bands emerged between '89 and '90, almost all of them quickly jumped on the Black Metal bandwagon in '91, something that never really happened in the rest of the Nordic countries. It was a sudden trend that wiped out what little Death Metal scene there was. AMPUTATION are a perfect example, having released two demos in '89 and '90 before Abbath and Demonaz decided to form IMMORTAL together with the drummer, who went on to play guitar on the first demo. Their close ties with OLD FUNERAL meant that members of those bands, AMPUTATION and IMMORTAL kept rotating between them, creating a real mess of comings, goings and collaborations between the three, haha!!

      The song we're covering here comes from their 2nd and final demo from 1990, which contained only two tracks, but they had a darkness, heaviness and intensity that drove me crazy, despite the poor sound quality. Let's say they were some kind of IMMOLATION (they even copied their logo), although somewhat more primitive and savage. If you listen to that demo on YouTube, you'll realize what a real challenge it was, especially for Alejandro Lobo, to figure out what the hell was going on there, haha!! Deciphering the phonetics of the vocals was also a delicate job. This really has been a true disemtombment, because the sound seemed to be coming from underground, haha!!

      I wasn't really sure what we would end up achieving here, but the result has been incredible. We brought out the intensity and darkness of the song while keeping, I think, the spirit of the original, but with everything in its place and with a more "audible" sound. AMPUTATION left behind only two demos of primitive Death Metal that never received much recognition, mainly because what came afterwards, IMMORTAL, overshadowed everything".

      A new piece of this dark puzzle will be revealed every friday until September 4th.

El propio Dave Rotten, comenta lo siguiente sobre esta canción:

      "Noruega no tuvo una escena muy prolífica en cuanto a Death Metal se refiere, ya que, si bien surgieron algunas bandas entre el '89 y '90, casi todas saltaron rápidamente al vagón del Black Metal en el '91, algo que no llegó a ocurrir en el resto de países nórdicos. Fue una moda fulminante que acabó con las pocas bandas que había. Es el caso de AMPUTATION, que lanzaron dos demos en el '89 y '90 antes de que Abbath y Demonaz decidiesen formar IMMORTAL junto al batería, que pasó a tocar la guitarra en la primera demo. La relación tan estrecha con OLD FUNERAL hizo que miembros de dichas bandas, AMPUTATION e IMMORTAL fuesen rotando, creando un auténtico lío de idas, venidas y colaboraciones entre las tres, jaja!!

      El tema que aquí versioneamos es de su 2ª y última demo de 1990, que tenía sólo dos canciones, pero que poseían una oscuridad, pesadez e intensidad que me volvían loco, a pesar de su deficiente calidad. Digamos que eran una especie de IMMOLATION (hasta les copiaron el logo), aunque algo más primitivos y salvajes. Si escuchas dicha demo en YouTube, te darás cuenta del auténtico reto, especialmente para Alejandro Lobo, de descubrir lo que estaba pasando ahí, jaja!! Descifrar la fonética de la voz también fue un trabajo delicado. Esto sí que ha sido un auténtico desenterramiento, porque el sonido parecía salir de debajo de tierra, jaja!!

      No estaba muy seguro de qué terminaríamos consiguiendo aquí, pero el resultado ha sido increíble. Hemos sacado la intensidad y oscuridad del tema, manteniendo (creo) el espíritu de la original, pero con todo en su sitio y con un sonido más "audible". AMPUTATION dejaron sólo dos demos de un primitivo Death Metal que no llegó a tener demasiada repercusión, principalmente porque lo que vino después, IMMORTAL, lo eclipsó todo".

      Una nueva pieza de este oscuro rompecabezas será revelada cada viernes hasta el 4 de Septiembre.
