Debut album from 1995 by the Irish PRIMORDIAL, one of the most influential and distinctive bands to emerge from the European Pagan Metal scene. “Imrama” finds the band in a much more melodic Black Metal-oriented phase, although it already incorporates many Celtic elements and the strong connection to Irish identity, history and spirituality that would later become central to its sound.
With an epic, melancholic and deeply pagan atmosphere, the album combines aggressive Black Metal passages with evocative melodies, acoustic arrangements and a surprisingly mature sense of identity for a debut release. Although PRIMORDIAL would later develop a more unique and recognizable style, “Imrama” remains a key work of 1990s Pagan Metal and an excellent document of the origins of one of the genre's most respected bands.
