Debut album from 1997 by this Argentine band and one of the essential releases of South American Death Metal during the 1990s. After establishing themselves within the local underground scene through several demo recordings, AVERNAL stepped into the full-length format with a powerful and well-crafted release that quickly positioned them among the leading names of Argentine extreme Metal. This album captures the band during its purest Death Metal phase, before the stylistic evolution explored on later releases.
Musically, "Avernal" delivers a dark and crushing Death Metal approach strongly influenced by the early 1990s Swedish scene. Dense and memorable riffs, punishing rhythms and a gloomy atmosphere dominate an album that balances aggression and heaviness with strong songwriting throughout. Thanks to the quality of its compositions and its distinctive character within the genre, this debut remains one of the most representative works in the history of Argentine Death Metal.
Recommended for fans of: ENTOMBED, GRAVE, GOREFEST, BLOODBATH.
2023 2-CD reissue of the 2nd album originally released in 2001 by this veteran Argentine band. Widely regarded as one of the most important releases from AVERNAL's early years, "No Hope" showcased a clear evolution from the band's 1997 debut, incorporating stronger groove-oriented and Death 'n' Roll influences while still retaining its Death Metal foundations. This expanded edition significantly enhances the original release through the addition of demos, alternate versions and live recordings on the second disc.
Musically, the album preserves the heaviness and darkness that defined the band's early sound while embracing more accessible songwriting and a dynamic approach that foreshadowed later developments in their career. The influence of the Swedish scene remains highly noticeable through its crushing riffs, strong grooves and dark melodies, bringing to mind acts such as ENTOMBED, GRAVE and early GOREFEST. An essential release for understanding AVERNAL's transition from traditional Death Metal toward a more distinctive and personal style.
Recommended for fans of: ENTOMBED, GOREFEST, GRAVE, BLOODBATH.
6th album from 2011 by this veteran Argentine band and one of the most ambitious works of its entire career. Conceived as the first chapter of a conceptual work inspired by various episodes and rebellious figures from Argentine history, "Réquiem para los rebeldes / Necrología parte 1" finds AVERNAL further developing the stylistic evolution initiated on previous releases, fully embracing its Death 'n' Roll identity while moving away from the more orthodox Death Metal approach of its early years.
Musically, the album blends the heaviness of Death Metal with strong influences from Hard Rock, Groove and Scandinavian Death 'n' Roll. The songwriting is more atmospheric and mature than on the band's earlier releases, placing a strong emphasis on mid-paced grooves, dark melodies and distinctly Swedish-inspired riffing. The influence of ENTOMBED is particularly noticeable, yet AVERNAL succeeds in forging its own identity through Spanish-language lyrics and a character deeply rooted in its Argentine origins.
Recommended for fans of: ENTOMBED, GOREFEST, BLOODBATH, HELLTRAIN.
